Play On

Please find attached a one page update from Peter Bath about the Play On campaign.  The official launch will take place on 30 May 2008 alongside the England Team training.  We need support from CBs in four key areas please:

  • 1. Continue to recruit Pathfinders, especially now the support package has been announced and workshops are running with positive feedback
  • 2. Send you toolkit applications within the next seven days to Charley Cullender [charleycullender@rfu.com] (if you have not already done so)
  • 3. Send the details of your CB campaign leaders to Laura Fear [laurafear@rfu.com] (if you have not already done so)
  • 4. With your RDOs, target specific Clubs, Universities and Colleges to create new teams and provide them with the appropriate playing opportunities.

ELVs

Please find attached a three page communication from Richard Glynne Jones, Referee Manager, about the Experimental Law Variations (ELVs) for your information.

ELVs & Continuum

The following statement was posted on the Community Rugby Forum by the Chairman of the Continuum Review Group (CRG) on 2 May 2008 “The CRG fully understands everyone's concern on how the iRB ELVs will impact on the Continuum and U19 rugby in England. The iRB only made its decision yesterday afternoon and publicised this by a press release.

So far no detailed changes to the Laws of the Game approved by the iRB Council has been received by the CRG. As the Continuum is part of RFU Regulations any changes for 2008-9 requires the approval of the RFU Council. So once the detailed iRB ELVs are received the CRG will examine their impact on the Continuum and as a matter of urgency will make recommendations to the RFU Council. Meanwhile despite what speculation may appear in the media please bear with us whilst we go through the RFU governance process.”

IMPORTANT REMINDER

Updating RugbyFirst: Ticketing and Contact Information Club Secretaries should have received a mailing w/e 18 April addressed to both their home address and club address. This mailing was related to updating the information currently held in RugbyFirst on key volunteers within each club, along with information on the teams that they field and their overall membership. This information is required for two reasons - to calculate club ticket allocations for the next four year cycle and to provide information for entries within the RFU Yearbook.

Updating RugbyFirst needs to be completed by all clubs by 1 June 2008. Data provided in this mailing also ensures that we can keep in touch with the correct club contacts and highlights the importance of keeping the information held on RugbyFirst as up to date and accurate as possible throughout the season. The Resources team will be contacting clubs where duplicate records are held for key volunteer roles – Honorary Secretary, Fixtures Secretary etc as only one individual should be allocated these roles on RugbyFirst. Please could you highlight the importance of this mailing and the related updates on RugbyFirst to your clubs.

CB Secretaries will be contacted separately at a later date checking details for the RFU Handbook 2008/09, however this information will be taken from RugbyFirst so please ensure information regarding key roles is kept as up to date as possible. If you have any queries regarding either of these points please contact [bethanpalmer@rfu.com].

Seal of Approval in your CB

Please find attached the latest edition of the information detailing the Seal of Approval accredited clubs. Since the appointment of Tom Cleary as CB and Club Administrator he has been working hard to update the e-mail and phone numbers for Seal of Approval contacts at clubs. If you have any information that may help him with this please contact him on [tomcleary@rfu.com].

100% ME Anti-Doping DVD Available

Many of you will have come across the 100% ME Anti-Doping DVD which is being distributed by the RFU to various parts of the rugby community. The DVD is a fantastic educational resource for players and coaches, covering issues such as banned substances, recreational drugs, testing procedures, case studies and supplements. The RFU has a small number of DVDs still available, completely FREE, so if you’re interested in ordering some for your club then please contact RFU Anti-Doping Officer, Gavin Dovey, on [gavindovey@rfu.com].

Go Play Rugby

There are only 3 days left for clubs to enter the fantastic competition to win a training day with the England Team. A shortlist of 10 clubs will receive a framed England shirt. Please encourage all your clubs with good community links to enter.
